The Day And Night Cycle

Since our topic is "outta this world" as one of our tasks we had to tell in our own words how the day and night cycle happens. This slide show tells you how day and night occurs.

My Dream 'Outta This World'

Brring.....’ scream the alarm, I tried to ignore it. I wanted to stay in my dream. My dream ‘Otta This World’ holiday.

I was sliding on the rings of Saturn trying to get away from Tyler, we were playing a game and he had to try and catch me. I was long gone from him and I saw him fall well sliding on the rings behind me. But that didn’t stop me, I was still trying my hardest to make the gap bigger because I already had a hiding spot that I planed earlier.

Luckily Tyler was saved by gravity ,someone must have turned it on, the game could play on. I finally got to my hiding spot, the dark hole. It was hidden behind a large group of sharp rocks. I had chosen this particular hiding spot because if he saw me then he would have to get past the sharp rocks before reaching me and I’d see him and get a descent head start to run away.

“Boo,” Screamed Tyler and gave me a fright so big that I woke up.
Thanks to Tyler for helping me edit this post.

Tennis Practise

Over the last couple of weeks we have been learning a few skills about how to play tennis. When I first heard of the idea I wasn't that excited but as soon as we started playing some games I realized how much I enjoyed playing it.

Even though it was raining my favourite session was our last one because we had a little tournament that was played with four players in each team, eight teams were involved. In my team was Jordan, Unaloto, April and myself.

Our first game was against Tyler’s team and I was first up to challenge there so called best player, Rachael. When I served the ball I saw that she was racing after it very quickly and I spotted a gap behind her so I tried my hardest to aim for that spot, watching the ball slowly approach me and once it hit the ground I carefully hit the ball not my hardest because I still don't know how to control it yet. To my luck it landed slightly off but still managed to get pass her. I got the point and it was the next persons turn.

During the tournament I was up against my next opponent, Tyler. It was his serve and once the ball left his hands I quickly predicted on where it was going and went for a risk and smashed it, it bounced once then Tyler went for a swing and totally missed. I felt like the All Blacks when they beat France in the finals for the World Cup.

The game was first to seven and we had six, Tyler’s team had four. We had the advantage of being in front but it was all up to April to win this for our team. We could fell the pressure as we watch behind her. She served the ball towards Cruz and Cruz swung, he hit the ball quite hard but she managed to tip it over the net Cruz was to far back and he sprinted up to the net but it was to late the ball had already bounced twice. We were victorious and we started cheering as we watched the other team leave our court.

That was one of the best feelings that I have felt during a tennis practise. We came out of the tournament undefeated and I was feeling really prod about it.

We are so lucky at our school to have a variety of sports to play, I've enjoyed playing most of them and I hope that we get a chance like this when we hit college.

Conversation With Dakata About France

Map of France

We have had a lot of fun learning about the wonderful country France the home of romance. This is related to our theme “Keep Your Eye On The Ball”.

Here is the conversation with Dakata and myself that I have constructed about the amazing country.

“Good morning Dakata,” I said, “First question, for $10 . What is the capital of France?”
Dakata replied, “Is it Paris?”.
I screamed, “Yes it is, you have one the first prize, $10, would you like to carry on and win more or walk away with this amazing prize”
Dakata stood there in silence.............”I’ll choose to carry on and try to win the rest of the prizes”.
“Ok, next question, I asked Dakata, "Did you watch the game on Saturday, France Vs All Blacks?"
Dakata Replied, "yes".
"Who was the previous captain of the French team?" I cheered.
He stood there in silence, "Is it Damitri Yachvilli,” Dakata asked.
"Yes, I Didn't think you'll get that one".
"Next question, What is one major celebration that the french celebrate?"
"hmmmmmmmm, is one Bastile Day?"
"Yes," I said with shock.
Dakata came to the next prize. “Would you like to take the prize ($10.50) home or carry on to win more money”.
“That’s a hard one, I choose to carry on,” said Dakata.
“Wise choice, Is France a geographic region in Europe,” I asked him.
“Yes,” he said quickly.
“Very good,” I surprisingly said to him. Who was the Indigenous peoples of France,” I asked Dakata.
“is it the Moari’s,” He said slowly.
“Sorry Dakata, you are wrong, the answer was the Gauls,” I corrected him. that’s puts you back to $10.25,” I sadly told him.
“Next Question, Name one of the local delicacies in France,” I questioned him.
Dakata hesitated from the previous question he got wrong, “is it food.”
“Yes it is, believe it or not,” I answered Dakata.
“Congratulations, you have earned your $10.50 back.”
“On to our next question, can you name two famous people from France?”
“Serge Blanco and Dimitry Yachvilli,” interrupted Dakata.
“Again, yes!
“If you visited France where would be a good place to go?”
“The Efle Tower,” He cheered.
“Once again, Yes!”
“What is one major industry in France,” I asked Dakata.
“Is it Wine?” Dakata Replied.
“Describe what the France main playing strip is.”
Dakata willingly told me,“The French main playing strip has two dark blue stripes from the right shoulder down to the left hip and two logos, on the left is a red shield with a yellow roster inside it and on the right is a white Nike symbol and the rest of the jersey is Blue.”
“Well described,” I commented.
“What is the neighboring country of France?” I asked Dakata.
”Is the answer, Belgium?”
“You got that wright ,” I announced
“You have another boost in your prize, your prize now is $20000000000000000000000000000000000000000.50, what would you like to do, take the money or carry on, this time if you get one question wrong then you lose all the money and walk away empty handed” I slowly explained.
“I choose to carry on,” he shouted.
I asked Dakata the final question, “What year was the French Revolution and is this a historical event?”
“Was the year 1783 and yes it is a historical event.”
“I am so sorry to tell you that you are wrong and you lose all your money.”
“The answer was 1789 and it is a historical,” I sadly spoke to Dakata.

You have came to the end of this conversation thanks for reading. I hoped you enjoyed and laughed at my ending.

Design Process and Furniture For the Street

We have been designing furniture for the street over the last few weeks. All of the students had to look for a problem in the street and use the furniture to solve the problem. My problem was people running around to much.

We researched and found a lot of designs and got some ideas of what and how we can make furniture.

After researching and finding ideas for our furniture we chose one idea and started to create it.

My design is a sitting area for people to have lots of conversations. This helps my problem because it closes down space for people to run around in and also clearly tells them this is a sitting area because of the design.

I made my design with a thin cardboard for the shape then used papier-mache around it.
When the glue dried I painted it white (under coat) My model is still under construction but here is a progress picture.

Next update will be soon so keep watching...................

My Problem For Maths

We in are learning to find a lot of ways to find out problems in our maths classes and this is one of them. The strategy that I have used is called Equal Additions. Watch and try to follow on how I explain what to do when these sort of equations.

Explanation: What I did first was I added 2 on each number so that the problem becomes much easier in this case 180-80 instead of the complicated way 182-78. This strategy is called equal additions and can only be used with subtraction .

Hints:
Always and the same amount on both numbers.
Try to make the equation a question that you find easy.

Tim Berners-Lee Biography

Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW). His invention has changed the way that people communicate around the world and that helps people stay in touch with relatives or friends in other places.

Tim Berners-Lee was born in London, England on 8th, June 1955. He was educated at Queens College at Oxford university in England and graduated from there in 1976. While he was there he invented his first computer made with a soldering iron.

1955: Tim was born
1976: Tim graduated at Queen's College at Oxford University. Whilst there he created his own computer made with a soldering iron.
1978: He spent two years with Plessey to join D.G Nash Ltd (Ferndown, Dorset, UK)
Early 1980’s: Tim spent a year and a halve as in independent consultant.
1980: As consultant software engineer at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory in Geneva, Switzerland. Whilst there, he wrote for his own private use his first program for storing information including using random associations. Named "Enquire", and never published, this program formed the conceptual basis for the future development of the World Wide Web.
1981-1984: Tim worked at John Poole's Image Computer Systems Ltd, with technical design responsibility. Work here included real time control firmware, graphics and communications software, and a generic macro language. In 1984, he took up a fellowship at CERN, to work on distributed real-time systems for scientific data acquisition and system control. Among other things, he worked on FASTBUS system software and designed a heterogeneous remote procedure call system.
1989:He proposed a global hypertext project, to be known as the World Wide Web. Based on the earlier "Enquire" work, it was designed to allow people to work together by combining their knowledge in a web of hypertext documents. He wrote the first World Wide Web server, "httpd", and the first client, "World,Wide,Web" a what-you-see-is-what-you-get hypertext browser/editor which ran in the Next Step environment. This work was started in October 1990, and the program "World Wide Web" first made available within CERN in December, and on the Internet at large in the summer of 1991.
1991-1993:Tim continued working on the design of the Web, coordinating feedback from users across the Internet. His initial specifications of URLs, HTTP and HTML were refined and discussed in larger circles as the Web technology spread.
1994:Tim joined the Laboratory for Computer Science (LCS)at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In 1999, he became the first holder of the 3Com Founders chair. He is Director of the World Wide Web Consortium which coordinates Web development worldwide, with teams at MIT, at INRIA in France, and at Keio University in Japan. The Consortium takes as its goal to lead the Web to its full potential, ensuring its stability through rapid evolution and revolutionary transformations of its usage.

Tim Berners-Lee has made communicating easier. He has made it faster and better because it is instant. The World Wide Web helps us find and share information. Tim’s invention has changed the way people think all over the world.

Zoom Zoom Zoom!!

Cars have changed a lot over the past 100 years because they are bigger, better, stronger and faster.

Some of the cars during the 1880’s had three wheels, 2.5 horsepower, no roof and it looked more like a horse carriage.

Nowadays, cars are faster because their engine has more power than older cars and the style of cars has also changed a lot. For instance, they used to have three wheels but now they have four wheels.

The thing that stands out for me inside cars in the present, are how much technology they’ve fitted inside them, there are things like GPS’s (a device that tells you where to go), T.V’s and loads more.

My Highlights About Term 1

LOOKING BACK-LOOKING FORWARD
One of my high lights during last term was the year 7 and 8 camp because we all had a blast and we really enjoyed it. My favourite part of camp was when my group (Thinkerz) won because of our outstanding performance during swimming sports, we managed to score over 2000 points from just swimming.

Another high light for me was technology at Tamaki College because we were learning about graphics and art is one of my favourite things to do at school. We learnt how to shade things and make them look 3-D. Our task was to create our own cartoon character a title and a something to hold our food in.

I choose the ice cream on a cone because I thought that is will be the easiest thing to make. My title for the ice cream was ‘Creamylicous’ and my character was a ice cream on a cone.

I really enjoyed last term and I wonder how this term will top it.

My Letter Home

Dear Nana,
How are you? Hope you are well. I really enjoy school because in my class are most of my friends. I especially like it now since we are have our own netbooks.

The thing that has got my interest in class mostly is how we can use our netbooks instead of our exercise books. I think that it makes my work look better and more interesting, it also helps me learn better because I am having fun as I am learning.

The First Day At Camp

Before camp. 7/03/11
We are having a team 5 camp next week and all of us are really feeling excited and looking forward to this. This is the first time in Pt England history that there is going to be a year seven and eight camp. Yesterday we all got put into our groups, Racheal and I are the captains of the wonderful group, ‘The Thinkerz ‘. I hope that I get along really well with my team mates during this experience at camp and I know that there going to be some hard times but I know that we’ll do really well about any situation.

At the end of camp Ms Tito and Mrs Nua announced the winners for camp and they said that our group, the Thinkerz had won because most of our people went swimming to get points for our team.

After camp
. 16/03/11

I think that this years camp was amazing and I hope that we can do another camp like that again. I really enjoyed camp because the team that I was working with didn’t really work together that much in the beginning and during the last bit of camp we were working really well because we knew each other better.

The first day of the year at Tamaki College.

The second Monday of this year was the day what most students like myself was waiting for, Technology. As Mrs Nua told us what she expected us to do when we go, I wasn’t sure witch group I was in so I was starting to panic because everyone was moving and I was the only one that didn't have anywhere to go. Luckully Charm saw my name on the same group what he was in and told me to get in line. So walking on the foot path with relieve I was telling Charm does he know what group we are going to and he answered no we'll get told when we arrive at Tamaki.

At Tamaki the area of learning that I am doing this term is 'graphics'. I was really excited when I heard that we were in amazing class of graphics with Ms furgusson because one of my favourite subjects is art and graphic is got to do with art. The first part of our session was quite grumpy with our teacher because we were to noisy but as the time grew longer we started to get along and had a great time.

I really enjoyed my time at Tamaki College as the second year that we went and I hope that we learn a lot from this experience at Tamaki college.
